About Dr. Janah Boccio

Janah Boccio, PhD, LCSW, has over 20 years of experience working with teens and adults and who feel stuck in their lives, whether it be their jobs, their relationships, or perhaps some part of their identity. Janah received her BA in Psychology from Macalester College, her MSW from the Smith College School for Social Work, and her PhD in Sexuality Education from Widener University.

In addition to having experience working as a social worker at an independent school in New York City, Janah maintains a psychotherapy practice where she works with adolescents and adults focusing mainly on gender and sexuality as well as anxiety and life transitions. Janah has created workshops and written advice columns for parents and caregivers on how to talk to kids about sex and sexuality and has presented to parents and Pre-K through 12th grade educators on gender and sexuality development in schools and at various conferences, including the NYSAIS Gender and Human Sexuality Conference 2023 and the Brooklyn Friends School. She has also consulted with schools on creating or expanding their sexuality education curricula.

Janah’s goal is to create a safe and welcoming space to explore patterns of behavior that may not be serving their purpose anymore. Psychotherapy is a co-created experience between therapist and client. She enjoys working individually with teens and adults, providing them with support to be their most authentic, genuine selves –– as well as working with adults & couples exploring their sexuality and sexual lives.

Janah utilizes an eclectic mix of approaches grounded in a foundation of psychodynamic and relational while incorporating elements from CBT, DBT and mindfulness. She also has supported many young people who have undergone a social/medical transition regarding their gender identity and regularly consults with schools on how best to support gender expansive students.

As a Sexuality Educator, Janah gives workshops to teachers and parents, and provides private sexuality education classes for middle and high school students. She also has extensive experience working with children with ADHD and learning disabilities.

Janah is licensed in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine.
